PJ Drive 2021

Hundreds of tamariki (kids) are warmer this winter thanks to our loyal community partners.

We’re proud to shout out to Soroptimist Waitara, Ruru House, Kidszone Preschool, Waitara Pharmacy, Tool Hire Taranaki, IncaFe’, St Pius X School, Taranaki District Health Board, Location homes, Professionals Real Estate, TSB Bank, Carefirst Medical Centre, My Mobile Accountant, Tandem Group Chartered Accountants, for their incredible support in making our annual pyjama drive the most sucessful yet!

Over 1,500 pairs of pyjamas have been distributed to eight grateful community groups – Tui Ora, Roderique Hope Emergency Housing Trust, Tu Tama Wahine o Taranaki, Inglweood Kohanga, Waitara East School, Waitara Central Kindgarten, Marfell Community School and Taranaki Women’s Refuge.

      
The overwhelming response shows the power of kindness when 14 businesses and community advocates come together to help others. Hear what some of the lucky Marfell children had to say about their new PJs.

“I was cosy and comfortable all night long,” says Damiel (8) with a smile.

“I wore my new pyjamas for three nights and they made me sleep better,” adds Thom (7).

As Waitara Central School Principal Peerie Topia puts it, “Kids have got to be warm and cared for.”

 

 This is all thanks to you, our incredible community partners and businesses. Because of your kindness and support, young tamariki in Taranaki are safe and warm in their pj's; for without the basic needs, tamariki struggle to learn and flourish. The smiles on their faces are enough to reaffirm the success of our Pyjama drive. Nga mihi to you all.

Scholarship Award Winners

  For many years, WISE Charitable Trust has supported local and emerging students from Waitara High School in the form of providing financial scholarships at the Senior Prize giving each year. However, in 2019 the scholarships were refined to better reflect the values of the Trust and to encourage youth leadership within the town of Waitara.   One of those awards, the Trust wanted to encourage and highlight examples of community leadership and active citizenship in Waitara.   Reflecting on our last day of 2020! We are so grateful to our amazing staff, volunteers, funders, community members and other organisations who supported us this year. We are looking forward to 2021 and the exciting ventures it will bring.

WISE People love community

  2019 was filled with craziness, fun and adventure. Insulation remained our main employment stream and was very busy due to the high demand of the Warmer Kiwi Homes insulation programme. To meet this demand we recruited insulation team members in both the Taranaki and Rotorua regions. We also had a new landcare team member join the team whilst one of the team was promoted to team leader.Not only are we committed to creating employment and providing our staff with the necessary skills to provide for their whanau, but we also immerse ourselves into various community and charity initiatives. The following community initiatives have been the highlight of the year for our staff. The community garden: We were able to fill up the Pataka on Broadway Street, Waitara with bags of potatoes, bunches of silverbeet and courgettes from our first harvest of the year.
